Job summary

St. Louis County Schools, ISD 2142, seeks eight dedicated Student Mentors, with one mentor assigned to each participating location, to provide individualized academic, behavioral, and student support to a defined caseload of students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling, psychology, human services, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with students in school settings or youth-serving environments preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor attendance, academic performance, grades, and behavioral data for assigned students.
  • Provide regular feedback, encouragement, and support toward identified goals.
  • Coordinate with families, teachers, and other professionals regarding student needs and progress.
  • Document interventions and student progress in grant records.
  • Serve as liaison between students, families, schools and community agencies to facilitate communication and problem-solving.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and family information.

Student Mentor – Grant Funded

Number of Positions: 8
Position: 1.0 FTE; 35 hours per week.
Wage: $21.60 – $28.13 per hour
Position Term: Grant-funded for the 2026–2027 school year

Locations: One Student Mentor position will be assigned to each of the following participating locations:

  • International Falls, MN
  • Ely, MN
  • Aurora, MN
  • Mountain Iron-Buhl, MN
  • Cherry, MN
  • Chisholm, MN

Benefits: Benefits are contingent upon the number of hours worked per week. For detailed information regarding available benefits, please refer to the applicable contract available on the St. Louis County Schools website.

Position Duration

These positions are grant-funded for the 2026–2027 school year. Employment beyond the initial grant-funded period is not guaranteed and is contingent upon the availability and continuation of grant funding.

Position Summary

St. Louis County Schools, ISD 2142, is seeking eight dedicated Student Mentors, with one mentor assigned to each participating location, to provide individualized academic, behavioral, and student support to a defined caseload of students.

Student Mentors will work collaboratively with schools and programs to establish clear roles and strategies designed to improve student participation, engagement, performance, and overall success, particularly for students who are disengaging from learning or experiencing barriers to success.

Mentors will build positive relationships with students and families and collaborate with school personnel and community agencies to develop a strong support system for them. Interventions may include, but are not limited to, one‑on‑one mentoring, small‑group support, goal setting, problem‑solving, progress monitoring, and connection to community resources.

  • Monitor and regularly track attendance, academic performance, grades, and behavioral data for assigned students.
  • Provide regular feedback, encouragement, and support to students regarding progress toward identified goals.
  • Communicate regularly with families and collaborate with teachers, school staff, and other professionals regarding student needs and progress.
  • Analyze student data and use information gathered through systematic monitoring to develop and implement individualized interventions.
  • Document interventions, student progress, outcomes, and other information as required by the grant or program.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, families, schools, and community agencies to facilitate communication, coordination, and problem‑solving.
  • Connect students and families with appropriate school, community, and agency resources and services.
  • Attend school, district, and program meetings to coordinate services, clarify roles, and develop strategies to improve student participation, performance, and success.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student and family information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling, psychology, human services, or a related field from an approved, accredited college or university is preferred. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working with students in a school setting, youth‑serving organization, community agency, or similar professional environment is preferred.

Ability to pass a pre‑employment background check.
