Job summary

CityScope Magazine in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is seeking an experienced, regionally based freelance feature writer with a vibrant style and strong reporting skills. This person will report directly to our editorial staff and may be assigned front‑of‑the‑book features (1,200–2,400 words) and back‑of‑the‑book departments (400–600 words).

We pay a fixed rate of 10 cents per word. Ideal candidates understand Chattanooga's arts scene, business landscape, and outdoor culture, and are familiar with AP

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent in editing/writing content) in English or journalism.
• Experience writing features for newspapers or magazines; internship experience acceptable.
• Ability to write clearly, concisely, correctly, and coherently per the 7 C's.
• Understand CityScope Magazine's editorial thrust and story types.
• Ability to adapt voice to the magazine's assignments and voice.
• Strong storytelling with engaging narrative.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; reliable follow-up and deadlines.
• Knowledge of Chattanooga and its arts, business, outdoor culture.
• Familiarity with AP Style.
