General Motors is seeking a Lead Chassis Structure Analyst to drive structural analyses of chassis, suspension and driveline. You will perform FEA, assess strength, stiffness and durability, and guide virtual validation of designs across teams.

You will partner with design, vehicle dynamics, and PITs to advance CAE methods, share results at reviews, and archive models for reuse. Hybrid work is expected with strong technical leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years in CAE roles in engineering environments.
  • 3+ years in linear and nonlinear structural analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead chassis and driveline structural analyses and virtual tests.
  • Perform FEA for strength, stiffness, durability, and NVH.
  • Coordinate CAE efforts with design and validation teams.
  • Develop block cycle test profiles for components.

This role is responsible for leading structural analysis activities for chassis structure, suspension, and driveline system, supporting design development and virtual validation through advanced simulation techniques. You will play a critical role in connecting component-level physics to full-vehicle system performance, working across domains to ensure robust, optimized designs.What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):The role will lead chassis and/or driveline analysis and virtual test activities in support of Body on Frame and rear wheel drive programs and technology development including:Lead structural analysis of chassis structure, suspension, and driveline systems to support design development and virtual validationPerform finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate strength, stiffness (static and dynamic), durability, and noise and vibrationConduct fatigue analysis and develop block cycle test profiles for chassis and suspension componentsWork closely with design engineers to develop technical solutions for new components and systemsSpecify and balance system-level requirementsSupport component and subsystem test development, including issue root cause analysis and resolutionLead project management activities for supplier-coordinated CAE effortsPresent analysis results and provide actionable recommendations during virtual design reviewsActively participate in Product Development Teams (PDTs) for chassis structure, suspension, and steeringCollaborate with Vehicle Dynamics and Noise & Vibration Performance Integration Teams (PITs)Participate in CAE focus groups and technical communities to drive the development of new CAE techniques and stay current with emerging tools and trendsDocument and archive analysis results and models for traceability and reuseYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):BSE, BS in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace Engineering5+ years of engineering experience in Computer Aided Engineer (CAE) rolesMust have three (3) years of experience in the following:Linear AnalysisNon-Linear Analysis to assess system, subsystem, and component performanceExpertise with CAE analysis codes: NASTRAN, OptiStruct, AbaqusHigh level of proficiency with CAE modeling tools: HyperWorks &/or ANSA preferredExpertise with structural fatigue theory, tools, and methods: DesignLife/nCode preferredFamiliarity with CAE and CAD integrationHigh level of oral and written communication skills to effectively communication technical issuesUnderstanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanismsWhat Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):Machine learning and artificial intelligence with application to structural designsExperience in chassis and/or driveline structure analysisMS in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace EngineeringExperience with component and sub-system test development and execution including real-time and block cycle testingExpertise with structural optimization and morphing tools and methodsFamiliarity with Weibull analysis and other statistical evaluation methods for durabilityFamiliarity with Windows and/or UNIX Based systemsDFSS Black Belt Certification#LI-KE2GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
