Summary:
Since 1967, North Carolina Outward Bound School (NCOBS) has delivered challenging wilderness adventures that teach more than outdoor skills. Our wilderness courses, from North Carolina mountains to South Florida shores to South America peaks, fulfill our mission to change lives through challenge and discovery. The Regional Advancement Manager will support the Advancement Department and volunteers to help build a fundraising program that fosters a culture of philanthropy across the Regional Advisory Boards, supporting NCOBS's mission and programs.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of NCOBS educational, operational, and scholarship goals in Charlotte, Florida, and Washington D.C., working closely with the NCOBS Advancement Team and Regional Advisory Boards to meet regional fundraising budgets and strategic goals.
- Lead and collaborate with Regional Advisory Boards to implement fundraising activities in the Charlotte, Florida, and Washington D.C. regions, including planning and coordinating events to raise funds and expand the local donor base and client network.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Partner with Regional Advisory Boards to define fundraising goals, raise funds, implement budgets, and meet NCOBS strategic objectives.
- Organize Regional Advisory Board activities, including preparing meeting agendas and minutes.
- Orient new members to the goals and purpose of the Boards and the Regional Advancement Plan (RAP).
- Maintain a donor portfolio within Charlotte, Washington D.C., and Miami communities.
- Coordinate with the Executive Director, NCOBS Advancement Team, and Regional Advisory Boards to develop and execute regional fundraising strategies and growth plans.
- Research and pursue regional grants and sponsorships in collaboration with the NCOBS Advancement Team.
- Work with the sales department to coordinate business development and media exposure efforts in Charlotte.
- Lead initiatives in Charlotte to advance RAP goals and objectives.
- Participate actively in regional partner meetings and events.
- Coordinate local efforts with the Charlotte Program Coordinator and assist in securing new business opportunities.
- Report weekly to the Director of Advancement on activities and schedule.
- Participate regularly in Advancement team meetings and collaborate with Asheville Town Office staff.
Working Conditions:
- Irregular work hours as needed.
- Quarterly travel to regional areas and occasional meetings at the Asheville Town Office.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
Qualifications:
- Experience in fundraising, sales, or marketing.
- Experience in public/media relations and grant writing.
- Experience supporting a board and volunteers.
- Knowledge and passion for NCOBS and Outward Bound programs.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to establish rapport with diverse groups including adults, teenagers, and parents.
- Professional representation of NCOBS.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in computer use, databases, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Teams.
- Ability to pass background and motor vehicle screening.
- Effective management and interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and leadership capabilities.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary range: $50,000 - $55,000 annually.
