Job summary

Vail Health in Colorado is seeking an experienced nurse to provide direction and supervision in the PreOp/PACU unit, organizing and coordinating patient care.

You will manage staffing, facilitate care delivery with clinical teams, and support quality and safety initiatives. Requires RN license in CO (compact eligible), BLS/ACLS/PALS, and at least an Associate Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).

Qualifications

  • Three years of PreOp/PACU nursing experience.
  • Colorado RN license (or compact state).
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required; Moderate Sedation preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing is required; BSN preferred.
  • Proficient English language skills (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Computer skills to access online learning, forms, and benefits enrollment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain daily unit operations including staffing, scheduling, and environment of care.
  • Manage nurse/patient ratios to ensure safe, quality care and control overtime.
  • Provide staff supervision and act as unit expert for care delivery.
  • Lead interdisciplinary coordination and communication for efficient patient flow.
  • Oversee care planning, assessments, and discharge needs.
  • Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Communicate with staff, physicians, and leadership; support education.
  • Assist budget awareness and staffing considerations; attend meetings.
  • Model Just Culture; report and learn from errors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; ensure HIPAA compliance.

About the opportunity:

Provide direction and supervision to other staff caring for patients in the unit. Organize, coordinate, and facilitate patient care. Collaborate with clinical providers, staff, and clinical leadership to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

What you will do:
  1. Maintain daily operational aspects of the unit to include, but not limited to, staffing, scheduling, and environment of care. Manage nurse/patient ratios to ensure safe, quality care and financial responsibility. Manage resources to minimize overtime.
  2. Serve as a resource in the provision of care, providing staff supervision and fostering professional growth. Serve as a unit expert and resource to staff and providers. Utilize appropriate resources as necessary. Apprize Unit Director/Manager of any issues outside of normal practice standards.
  3. Act as role model for high level of nursing professionalism and application, while moving the patient efficiently through the care continuum and coordinating care with other patient care units. Function as a member/leader of the interdisciplinary care delivery team. Serve as the primary point of contact for the department when staffing, coordinating multi-disciplinary communication and emergency responses.
  4. Provide expert level of patient assessment to include biophysical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, environmental, self-care and discharge/transfer needs, care planning, and intervention while embracing Relationship-Based Care delivery model. Research and implement evidence-based care appropriate to the care setting. Practice according to Vail Health Nursing Professional Model of Care.
  5. Participate in the interviewing, mentoring, coaching, precepting, and evaluating processes. Hold self and others accountable for actions and outcomes.
  6. Participate in quality improvement programs and safety initiatives. Support and promote unit and organizational quality, safety, and compliance efforts.
  7. Manage patient, physician, and staff expectations by proactively communicating. Provide education according to established policies and procedures in collaboration with department Educator.
  8. Act as a unit liaison, including being familiar with the budget process and staffing levels, regularly attending meetings, and supporting the functions of various teams.
  9. Role model the principals of Just Culture and utilize Quantros for the reporting of medical errors and near misses.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

What you will need:
Experience:
  • Three years of PreOp/PACU nursing experience in similar work environment required.
License(s):
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado or from a valid compact state required.
Certification(s):
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
  • Moderate Sedation Certification preferred
Computer / Typing:
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Previous experience supporting Windows servers.

Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

Education:
  • Minimum of Associate Nursing Degree for positions hired after 07/01/2018. Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher degree preferred.

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.

Hourly Pay: $43.43 – $69.28 USD
