Charge Nurses in Clinical Units are responsible for ensuring appropriate practice standards and professional interactions among staff and patients on a specific unit and provide immediate supervision to the Nursing staff. As leaders they are pivotal in the creation of a culture of teamwork, excellence, collaboration and ultimately retention and recruitment. Understanding of the theoretical framework of the Nursing process. This requires evidence of assessment and reassessment ability, problem identification, intervention, evaluation and initiation of plan of care. The Charge Nurse ultimately serves as a role model in patient care, teacher, mentor, and communicator. There is evidence of ongoing collaboration with leaders throughout the institution.
