Charge Nurse –Wound Care

Required:

State of Maine Nursing licenseas a Registered Nurse. (required)

Specializedcertification in Wound Care (CWCN) is preferred. Incumbents who do not possessthis certification upon initial hire, can develop a plan of action to obtainCWCN certification with the Director of Nurses and Administrator.

$12,000 signon bonus

Wages start at $34.00 per hour and increases with experience.

Overview

WoundCare Nurse will report to the Director of Nurses and Administrator. The Wound CareNurse must possess and maintain a current RN License in the State of Maine andmust possess demonstrated knowledge and experience sufficient to perform alldirected duties with excellence. TheCharge Nurse will also work closely with supervising physicians to assess andmonitor resident’s needs, ensure treatment and care are conducted according tothe facility’s procedures, administer medications, and perform other relatedtasks.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure all nursing staff understand andfollow their respective job descriptions.
  • Ensure that nursing practice complieswith regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure sufficient numbers of licensed andcertified staff are available each shift to meet regulatory requirementsand provide appropriate care to residents.
  • Complete routine clinical rounds each dayto ensure all staff are performing work assignments in accordance withacceptable standards.
  • Promote, establish, and maintain customerrelationships with residents, families, staff, community, and otherprofessionals.
  • Review complaints and concerns made byfamilies, residents and staff, communicate these concerns including followup with the managers, or Director of Nursing, or Administrator asappropriate.
  • Ensure policies and procedures regardingcommunicable diseases, infection control, and isolation procedures as wellas other systems pertinent to nursing are followed and maintained.
  • Implement policies and procedures incollaboration with the Managers, Director of Nursing andAdministrator.
  • Provide support for staff competence withPoint Click Care (PCC).
  • Make written and verbalreports/recommendations to the Managers and Director of Nursing asnecessary concerning the operation of the nursing department.
  • Assist and implement appropriate plans ofcorrection for safety concerns identified. Ensure assessments,evaluations, and charting is completed according to policy.
  • Actively participate in Quality Assuranceand Performance Improvement (QAPI) program as directed by the managers orDirector of Nursing.
  • Participate in routine and daily care ofresidents to include but not limited to assistance with ADLs, meals,eating, functional maintenance plans/nursing restorative plans, andactivities.
  • Complete and deliver assigned staffperformance evaluations as directed.

Wound Care:

  • Assess deep wounds, skin tears,ostomies, severe burns, pressure injuries or bedsores, and diabetic footwounds. Communicate with physician and create a plan of care that staffnurses follow.
  • Implements care plans to helpprevent wounds from worsening.
  • Educating staff nurses on woundcare protocols.
  • Creating, updating, and managingcare plans.
  • Performing specialized wound careprocedures.
  • Working with a multidisciplinaryteam to plan skin care interventions.
  • Performing diabetic foot care.
  • Educating patients and theircaregivers on wound care procedures and preventative measures.
  • Charting clinical information forinsurance reimbursement.
  • Writing nursing orders thatpromote wound healing and/or prevent skin breakdown.
  • Staying up to date with currentwound treatments.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage highlevels of stress/conflict.
  • Ability to lead by example, identify and addresschallenges proactively.
  • Must have ability/competency, and willingness towork as a direct care provider when necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to cope with mental and emotionalstress of the position and effectively communicate policies, procedures,and reports to employees, residents, family members, visitors, andgovernment agencies as needed.
  • Must function independently, as well as amember of multiple teams, have flexibility, personal integrity, and theability to work effectively with residents, employees, regulators, thepublic, and support agencies.
  • Must be able to relate to and work withill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile peoplewithin the nursing community.
  • Able to move at least 35lbs. withoutassistance, able to bend, sit, and work in small areas and displaysstamina to assist residents where needed and in emergencies.
