Job Title: Charge RN – OR/GI (Full-Time)

Shift time: Days (7:00am-3:30pm)

Position Summary

The Charge Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR)/Gastroenterology (GI) is a clinical leader responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality nursing care in the surgical and gastroenterology setting. This role includes patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as supervision of nursing staff and coordination of daily unit operations. The Charge RN ensures the safe, effective, and compassionate care of patients undergoing surgical or GI procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume leadership for the coordination of nursing care for patients in the OR and GI suites.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care based on patient needs and evidence-based practices.
  • Supervise and support the nursing team, ensuring proper clinical practice and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and respond promptly and appropriately.
  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Assist in managing daily workflow and staffing, ensuring the appropriate allocation of resources and assignments.
  • Maintain high standards of infection control and procedural safety in the perioperative and GI settings.
  • Serve as a role model, preceptor, and clinical resource for nursing colleagues and support staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support ongoing unit development.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Previous experience in the OR and/or GI setting preferred.
  • Leadership or charge nurse experience strongly preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Current CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
  • ACLS certification preferred; required for critical care and emergency settings.
  • PALS certification required for emergency and pediatric care.
  • NRP certification required for Special Care Nursery (if applicable based on patient population).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical assessment, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
  • Proficiency in patient safety practices and sterile techniques.
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles and age-specific patient care needs.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a diverse healthcare team.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in clinical documentation and execution of care.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient positioning and transport.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical and procedural environment.
