Your Role as a Charge Nurse (RN)

Skilled Nursing

Americare Senior Living is seeking a dedicated Charge Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional clinical care and leadership within our skilled nursing community. In this role, you’ll serve as a frontline clinical leader — overseeing resident care, guiding nursing teams, and ensuring compliance with state, federal, and Americare standards.

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment, values teamwork, and is passionate about delivering compassionate, high-quality care to residents.

Summary

The Charge Nurse (RN) is responsible for overseeing nursing services and resident care during assigned shifts to ensure safety, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance.

This role provides clinical leadership and supervision to nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and CMAs, while maintaining accurate documentation, administering medications and treatments, and responding to changes in resident condition. The Charge Nurse serves as a key communicator between residents, families, providers, and interdisciplinary team members.

This role may also be known as:

Charge Nurse (RN), RN Supervisor, Floor Nurse (RN), Shift Supervisor (RN), or Staff RN with Charge Responsibilities.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight of nursing services during assigned shifts
  • Supervise and support nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and CMAs
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, facility policies, and standards of care
  • Complete and update resident assessments, care plans, and clinical documentation as needed
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols
  • Conduct routine rounds to assess resident status, staffing coverage, and care quality
  • Communicate changes in resident condition to physicians, families, nursing leadership, and the interdisciplinary team
  • Address, document, and report incidents, accidents, and concerns, including suspected abuse or neglect
  • Ensure appropriate supplies, equipment, and medications are available and communicated to leadership
  • Collaborate with leadership and other departments to promote a safe, respectful, and supportive care environment
  • Uphold Americare’s mission, vision, values, and commitment to resident-centered care
What You Bring
Licensure / Certification
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Maintains current state registration and required continuing education
Experience & Skills
  • Prior experience in skilled nursing or long-term care preferred
  • Working knowledge of state and federal nursing regulations
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and communicate effectively with care teams
  • Compassionate, detail-oriented, and resident-focused approach to care

Physical Demands

The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:

  • Stand, sit, walk, reach, crouch, kneel, balance, stoop, bend, and frequently change positions
  • Lift up to 25 lbs. from sit to stand
  • Push, pull, and assist in moving up to 100 lbs., including resident transfers
  • Follow safety protocols, including two-person lifts and use of mechanical aids
  • Utilize required safety equipment and PPE
