Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking an ICU Charge Nurse to lead a frontline nursing team through daily high‑acuity patient care, driving clinical excellence and unit performance. You will oversee department operations, advocate for staff, and navigate tough conversations to maintain accountability across staff and the unit.

The role requires strong communication, personal accountability, and the ability to mentor and coordinate care delivery in a fast‑paced ICU environment.

Qualifications

• Two years RN experience within applicable clinical specialty and/or charge nurse experience.
• AZ RN license required.
• AHA BLS and ACLS certification required.
• Associate's degree of Nursing or foreign equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Mentor others in competency, documentation, equipment use, plan of care, and patient safety.
• Coach to improve care and clinical outcomes.
• Provide direct patient care as needed to meet unit needs.
• Prepare work schedules and assign personnel.
• Coordinate patient flow on the unit to ensure timely and effective care.
• Demonstrate prioritization and critical thinking in high‑acuity situations.

As our ICU Charge Nurse, you will help your frontline nursing team navigate the daily challenges of high‑acuity patient care so they can deliver exceptional clinical outcomes and reach their full professional potential while meeting unit goals. Every day you will oversee department operations and advocate for your fellow nurses by identifying and addressing the unique needs of your patients, staff, and unit. You will be expected to drive clinical excellence, manage overall unit performance, and confidently lead both 1:1 interactions and group communications. To be successful, you must demonstrate high personal accountability, exceptional communication skills, and the confidence to navigate tough conversations to ensure staff and unit accountability.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor others in areas such as competency, documentation, equipment use, plan of care, National Patient Safety Goals, and participation in in‑service education.
• Coach to improve care.
• Provide direct patient care as appropriate to meet the needs of the patients and department.
• Prepare work schedules and assign personnel.
• Coordinate patient flow on the unit to facilitate timely and effective care.
• Demonstrate appropriate prioritization and critical thinking skills in critical situations.

Job Requirements

• Two (2) years RN experience within applicable clinical specialty and/or charge nurse experience.
• AZ RN license.
• AHA BLS and ACLS certification.
• Associate's degree of Nursing or foreign equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• CVICU experience or Critical Care Charge Nurse.
• Bachelor's Degree of Nursing.
• Certification in a specialty.
