Job description

NOW ELIGIBLE FOR A $10,000 SIGN-ON BONUS.

To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.

The Charge/Lead Nurse position is located at Hyde Correctional Institution in Fairfield, NC, a Minimum Custody Facility. The position provides professional nursing care/treatment to patients in accordance with medical protocols in a supervisory capacity. Employees in this role are responsible for managing and supervising daily nursing care on an assigned shift or assigned area, or in a preceptor role, coordinating all licensed and non-licensed staff. Work includes conducting needs assessments; developing, implementing and evaluating treatment plans; and providing patient care and education to offenders in a state correctional facility. Position requires sick call assessments, medication administration, phlebotomy sticks, transcribing MD/PA orders, patient education, thorough medical documentation, monitoring/treatment of communicable diseases, and responding to emergencies. The position will be the Charge/Lead RN and may be required to work any shift, based on current needs of the institution, to include weekends and holidays, with limited clinical supervision.


This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.

The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
