Job summary

Valley Children’s Hospital seeks a nurse leader to manage the operations of a defined pediatric care unit during day shifts. You will oversee staff performance, coordinate assignments, and support recruitment and staff development in alignment with hospital policies.

About Us

The Pediatric Cardiac Cath/Electrophysiology Lab and Interventional Radiology/Perianesthesia Imaging unit at Valley Children’s Hospital offers services for infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart disease and is part of the larger Perioperative team. This unit services patients coming to the Cardiac Cath/Electrophysiology Lab, Interventional Radiology, and an Imaging modality that requires anesthesia for the Imaging procedure to be completed (MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, etc.). The Cath Lab features fully digital and completely computerized equipment, making it one of the most technologically advanced laboratories in the United States. This unit employs Registered Nurses, Perioperative Coordinators as well as Special Procedures, Patient Care and Cardiovascular Technicians. Each division works to provide their team with advancement opportunities that encourage self-development, offer process improvements, and ultimately work to improve outcomes for our patients.

Job Summary

This position is accountable for managing the overall operations of a defined patient care unit during an assigned shift. The incumbent is accountable for monitoring, evaluation, and directing patient care provided by staff, coordinating activities of the patient care unit, making staff assignments and assisting with the development and evaluation of staff members. The incumbent will assist with the recruitment and hiring of staff, evaluating staff competency and evaluating, coaching, and counseling assigned staff in concert with the Manager/Supervisor. This position practices within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act, and in accordance with Children’s policies.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelors Degree (required)
• Bachelors Degree Nursing (preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

• RN - Registered Nurse
• License - CA-BRN - California Board of Registered Nursing (required)
• BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)
• ACLS and PALS Certifications within 12 months of hire or transfer into position (required)

Work Experience

• Minimum two (2) years Full time or equivalent nursing experience (required)
• Pediatric experience (preferred)

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated abilities in the areas of critical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution, leadership including delegation, collaboration, feedback, effective communication and customer focused service behaviors.
• Bilingual Skills Preferred.
