Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
• Current TX RN license.
• PMH nursing certification within one year or eligible to take exam.
• Two+ years of psychiatric staff nurse experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise nursing care on assigned shift to ensure quality patient care.
• Provide leadership and mentor staff; oversee performance evaluations.

Population: Adults

Position Summary

The Charge Nurse is responsible for directing and supervising nursing care on an assigned shift to ensure a high level of patient care in keeping with the goals and philosophies of Menninger and the nursing discipline.

Key Functions

1. Provide leadership in delivery of nursing care on the assigned program
   • a. Create and maintain a work climate that encourages positive nursing staff morale, motivation and commitment
   • b. Role model effective interdisciplinary collaboration
   • c. Provide effective supervision of staff nurses and mental health associates
   • d. Apply principles of effective team functioning
   • e. Coach and mentor staff
   • f. Participate in performance evaluations
   • g. Support and participate in shared governance
   • h. Facilitates educational and orientation experiences
   • i. Makes budgetary recommendations to nurse manager regarding operational needs for the unit, including management of overtime and supplies

Education Required:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

License/Certification Required:

Current license to practice as RN in State of Texas

Certification in Psychiatric Mental health nursing within one year of hire or eligibility to take exam.

Experience Required:

Two or more years of experience as a psychiatric staff nurse.
