Responsibilities

Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108-bed psychiatric facility serving children, adolescents, and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission, with over 45 years of experience in behavioral health evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. We are seeking qualified applicants for a Charge Psych RN--300 Unit.

*Sign On Bonus: $5,000 for those with previous Psych Hospital experience; $4,000 for those without, for External Candidates Only*

Position Overview

The Charge Psych RN provides leadership for a unit and nursing care to patients, utilizing the nursing process. The patient population includes adolescents and adults. This is a full-time position, 36 hours per week, with 12-hour shifts from 7 am to 7 pm.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Provides leadership for the shift.
• Triages admissions and coordinates discharges with the ARC Department.
• Leads in emergencies on the unit.
• Oversees staffing for current and next shifts.
• Develops initial nursing treatment plans for admitted patients.
• Assesses, plans, and delivers care for patients with co-occurring disorders.
• Continuously assesses and reassesses patients' medical and psychiatric statuses.
• Participates in planning and implementing treatment with team members.
• Maintains a safe and therapeutic milieu.
• Assists with discharge planning and patient discharges.
• Provides leadership in crisis behavioral management, including seclusion/restraint decisions.
• Administers medication, educates patients on medications, and assesses side effects and efficacy.
• Maintains professionalism and adheres to standards of care.
• Accurately transcribes physician orders.
• Follows infection control policies and standard precautions.
• Assesses and manages patient pain.
• Attends monthly clinical staff meetings or reviews minutes.
• Stays current with nursing standards and practices.
• Handles crisis calls, makes referrals, and completes assessments.
• Maintains therapeutic relationships within professional boundaries.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
