Job summary

Trinity Health Of New England is seeking a First Year Chaplain Resident to join the Spiritual Care Department. This full-time role involves responding to spiritual needs across the organization and providing interfaith care, with a rotating shift and an August 2026 start date.

The incumbent will participate in the professional training program, including the action-reflection-new action process, and must hold ordination or commission for ministry. Benefits start at the first day of employment.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have BA/BS or MDiv/equivalent and be ordained/commissioned for ministry.
• One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from an ACPE-accredited center.

Responsibilities

• Respond to spiritual needs of patients, families, and staff across the organization.
• Provide interfaith spiritual care through visitation, prayers, sacraments, bereavement, and end-of-life support.
• Support and participate in existential conversations, life-review, and spiritual rituals as appropriate.
• Communicate effectively with administration, colleagues, patients, and families.
• Engage in the action-reflection-new action process and fulfill educational requirements for chaplaincy certification.

Shift: Rotating shift

Description: The First Year Chaplain Resident functions as a team member of the Spiritual Care Department and establishes collaborative relationships with the interdisciplinary care team, other professionals and the community. The estimated start date is August 2026.

What you will do

• Responsible for responding to the spiritual needs of patients, families and staff of all faith traditions throughout the organization
• Provides interfaith spiritual care through visitation, crisis intervention, prayers, sacraments as needed and appropriate, bereavement and end-of-life support, life-reviews, spiritual care consultation around existential questions, spiritual and religious rituals, worship services and staff support
• Must understand we exist for the patients and their care is the number one priority
• Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with admin, colleagues, patients and family members
• Responsible for participating in the professional training program such as the action-reflection-new action process, written requirements and group participation to complete the educational requirements for chaplaincy certification

Minimum Qualifications

• College degree BA/S, MDiv/equivalent, graduate studies in theology, religion, counseling, psychology or spirituality
• Be ordained or commissioned to function in ministry by an appropriate religious authority as determined by ACPE
• One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited CPE center
