Job summary

Trinity Health Of New England is seeking a First Year Chaplain Resident to join the Spiritual Care Department. This full-time role involves rotating shifts and delivering interfaith spiritual care to patients, families, and staff across the organization.

The resident will provide crisis intervention, prayers, sacraments as needed, bereavement support, and staff spiritual care, while pursuing chaplaincy certification through the required ACPE pathway.

Qualifications

  • Minimum BA/BS or equivalent with graduate studies in theology, religion, counseling, psychology, or spirituality.
  • MDiv/equivalent required for chaplaincy track and eligibility for ordination.
  • Be ordained or commissioned to function in ministry by a recognized religious authority.
  • One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from an ACPE-accredited center is required.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to spiritual needs of patients, families, and staff across the organization.
  • Provide interfaith spiritual care through visitation, prayers, sacraments, bereavement and end-of-life support, and staff spiritual care.
  • Ensure patient-centric care remains the top priority in all interactions.
  • Communicate effectively with administration, colleagues, patients, and families.
  • Participate in the professional training program and fulfill educational requirements for chaplaincy certification.

The First Year Chaplain Resident functions as a team member of the Spiritual Care Department and establishes collaborative relationships with the interdisciplinary care team, other professionals and the community. The estimated start date is August 2026.

What You Will Do
  • Responsible for responding to the spiritual needs of patients, families and staff of all faith traditions throughout the organization
  • Provides interfaith spiritual care through visitation, crisis intervention, prayers, sacraments as needed and appropriate, bereavement and end-of-life support, life-reviews, spiritual care consultation around existential questions, spiritual and religious rituals, worship services and staff support
  • Must understand we exist for the patients and their care is the number one priority
  • Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with admin, colleagues, patients and family members
  • Responsible for participating in the professional training program such as the action-reflection-new action process, written requirements and group participation to complete the educational requirements for chaplaincy certification
Minimum Qualifications
