Under the direction of a certified chaplain supervisor of Pastoral Care, the chaplain resident assists with the direct ministry to patients and their families; participates in the educational structure for the chaplain residents; assists, as assigned, with an administrative responsibility of the Department; cooperates and collaborates with other departments in ministry and assists in effecting new programs; assists in strengthening the department's inter-hospital relationships and as time permits, assists with the department's community relations. Responsibilities

  • 1.Provides appropriate ministry to patients/families/staff.
    • 1.1Responsible for the direct ministry to patients and families in assigned sections of the hospital.
  • 2.Maintains effective, open communication with all members of the health care team and other hospital staff.
    • 2.1Functions as an active, contributing member of an inter-disciplinary team as measured by supervisory observation and feedback.
  • 3.Maintains appropriate records as mandated by department policies and JCAHO standards.
    • 3.1Makes notes in charts as appropriate within departmental guidelines and keeps records on departmental forms of special acts such as baptisms, critical calls, and visits at death. Assists by keeping a daily log of experiences and performances as to time, place, description and people involved.
  • 4.Develops and maintains positive working relationships with community clergy and congregations.
    • 4.1Collaborates with community clergy to assist in their visitation of hospitalized parishioners. Assists the department in obtaining the correct, most specific, hospital printout of religious affiliation.
  • 5.Expands professional competency through participation in ongoing training activities.
    • 5.1Establishes a learning contract with the assigned chaplain supervisor and other chaplain residents that will direct learning and clinical ministry.
  • 6.Promotes and maintains positive customer relations.
    • 6.1Demonstrates courteous, helpful and professional manner towards customer as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback.
  • 7.Complies with hospital-wide standards of practice in the following areas.
    • 7.1Attends and participates in mandatory in-services and consistently follows proper safety and emergency policies and procedures as measured by supervisory observation and feedback.
