Job Summary :This position is PRN, as needed, hours, shifts and day may vary.To compassionately respond to spiritual and emotional needs of hospital patients, families, staff and the wider community; demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for diversity in religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.One Unit of Clinical Pastoral Education is required.Job DescriptionEssential Responsibilities:1. Core Elements: Foundational principles for HRH Chaplains:Supports hospital mission and values statement, strategic plan and vision, and philosophy of the Chaplaincy Department.Understands and embraces a collegial methodProvides pastoral care to patients, families, staff and wider community focusing on the spiritual and emotional needs presented.Communicates effectively and in timely fashion with patients and staff.Facilitates support groups.Demonstrates attentiveness personal and professional self-care, including compliance with hospital-wide educational training.Recognizes and honors the role of Chaplaincy Department within the wider scope of Hendricks Regional Health.2. Department Specific Elements: Tasks related to the maintenance of established departmental procedures and to the on-going development of the department’s services.Keeps an accurate record of pastoral care work, completing appropriate medical record and departmental documentation according to professional and departmental standards.Provides for or facilitates in arranging for religious rites as is deemed appropriate in response to requests from patients, families and staff.Provides oversight for specific areas of departmental program, working with colleagues to determine implementation of said programs.Participates in all phases of the HRH Bereavement services offered through the Chaplaincy department.Writes devotions and develops communications to enhance the visibility of the Chaplaincy department and awareness of spirituality in the workplace.Understands Advanced Medical Directives documents and assists patients and family members in their understanding and execution of said documents.Participates in Patient Rounds and Care Conferences as available, relating to other disciplines of health care and provides insights of religious and spiritual dynamics of patient care.Demonstrates sensitivity and attentiveness to all patients, families and staff—particularly those dealing with bereavement issues.Regularly attends staff meetings, performing administrative tasks as required and other duties as assigned.Education Required/Certification Preferred:The following educational and professional credentials are required for this position:A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent from an accredited seminary (Association of Theological Schools) or university.Ordination and proper ecclesiastic religious endorsement from the ordaining body.Clinical Pastoral Education: 1 unit minimum; 4 units including a 1 year residency preferred.Experience in parish based ministry, a minimum of 5 years preferred; and in a healthcare related field, a minimum of 2 years experience preferred.Work Shift :1st Shift (United States of America)Scheduled Weekly Hours :0
