Job summary

Ambercare Hospice is seeking a compassionate PRN Chaplain to join our Las Cruces team. You will provide spiritual care and bereavement counseling to patients and families as part of an interdisciplinary hospice program, helping address needs during end-of-life care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology; ordination/commission preferred.
• Hospice experience in death and dying strongly preferred.
• Interfaith sensitivity and ability to respect diverse beliefs.
• Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance required.

Responsibilities

• Performs spiritual bereavement assessments for patients and families.
• Provides direct spiritual care and bereavement counseling.
• Demonstrates exceptional service to patients, families, and staff.
• Records accurate and timely documentation of services.
• Attends team meetings to coordinate care among disciplines.
• Provides consultation and education on spiritual care within the team.
• Participates in Continuous Care and on-call coverage as needed.
• Supervises spiritual care volunteers as assigned.
• Develops and implements bereavement plans, offering services up to one year after death.

What You�ll Do:

• Performs spiritual bereavement assessments of patients and families/caregivers in the hospice program in a timely manner and ensure that identified needs are addressed in the patient’s plan of care
• Provides direct spiritual care and bereavement counseling to patients and families/caregivers
• Demonstrates exceptional service to patients, families, referral sources, co-workers, and other customers. Assists team members as needed to ensure that this level of service is consistently provided
• Provides accurate and timely documentation of patient services to reflect the plan of care
• Attends group meetings to facilitate coordination of care and discussion of interdisciplinary group involvement
• Provides consultation, education, and support to the interdisciplinary group on spiritual care and bereavement counseling
• Participates in Continuous Care and on call, if necessary
• Assists in supervision of spiritual care volunteers when assigned to patient’s families/caregivers as needed
• Assumes responsibility in directing the development and implementation of the bereavement plan of care and the frequency of service delivery; make available bereavement services for up to one year following the death of the patient

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology and/or a certificate of ordination or commission from a religious faith group; completion of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred
• Previous hospice experience working with death and dying strongly preferred
• Comfortable in an interfaith setting and able to accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values
• Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is required
