Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a chaplain to organize and oversee pastoral care for inmates, including worship, counseling, visitation, education, and related religious activities.

You will work with volunteers from diverse denominational and faith groups and collaborate with institutional operations, programs, and administrative staff to ensure comprehensive spiritual care.

Qualifications

  • Master of Divinity from an accredited theological school.
  • Clinical Pastoral Education and/or work experience in a clinical pastoral setting.
  • Ordination as Priest, Minister, or Rabbi with current ecclesiastical endorsement.

Job description

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements

The equivalent of a Master of Divinity degree from an accredited theological school, additional clinical pastoral education and/or work experience in a clinical pastoral setting.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

  • The equivalent of a Master of Divinity degree from an accredited theological seminary and ordination as a Priest, Minister, or Rabbi with current ecclesiastical endorsement.
  • One (1) year of clinical pastoral education approved by Association of clinical Pastoral education, the American Associate of Pastoral Counselors, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains or the National Jewish Welfare Board and one (1) year of pastoral experience.
