Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a chaplain to provide weekly worship services, sacraments, and pastoral counseling within the inmate population.

The role includes crisis intervention, religious education, social skills groups, daily inmate visitation, and recruiting institutional volunteers. Four weeks of SCDC Basic Training is required on hire.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity from an accredited theological school.
• Clinical pastoral education and/or work in a clinical pastoral setting.
• Ordination as a priest, minister, or Rabbi with ecclesiastical endorsement and 1 year pastoral experience.
• Must complete 4 CPE units within 24 months of hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

The equivalent of a Master of Divinity degree from an accredited theological school, additional clinical pastoral education and/or work experience in a clinical pastoral setting.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• Must have the equivalent of a Master of Divinity degree from an accredited theological seminary;
• Ordination as a priest, minister, or Rabbi, with current ecclesiastical endorsement; one (1) year of pastoral experience; and must have completed two (2) CPE units under the supervision of an ACPE certified educator.
• Will be required to have 4 units of CPE within 24 months of hire.
