Job summary

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis seeks a Chaplain to provide pastoral care and counseling to patients, families, associates, medical staff and visitors. This role supports spiritual well-being by exploring faith, illness, and personal beliefs within MLH's mission and values.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s Degree in Divinity and Theology, 1–3 years hospital chaplaincy experience, and prefers board certification options.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Divinity required.
• Master’s Degree in Theology required.
• Hospital chaplain experience 1–3 years required.
• Board/certification preferences for chaplains (Jewish Catholic/IC) preferred]
• Work experience in hospital chaplaincy is required and prioritized

Education/Formal Training Requirements

• Required - Hospital Chaplain 1-3 years

Licenses and Certifications Requirements

• Preferred - Board Certified Jewish Chaplain - National Association of Jewish Chaplains
• Preferred - Board Certified Catholic Chaplain - National Association of Catholic Chaplains
• Preferred - Board Certified Chaplain - IC - Board of Chaplaincy Certification Incorporated Commission

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Functional knowledge of the religious principles of major faiths.
• Ability to work effectively with persons of diverse religious, cultural, and racial backgrounds.
• Skill and proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles and professional techniques in the field of chaplaincy.
• Ability to listen, understand, and minister to the specific spiritual needs of persons in crisis.

Supervision Provided by this Position

There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands

The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading. The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
