Job summary

Crossbridge Hospice is seeking a compassionate Chaplain to serve hospice patients and families in Youngstown, OH. The role focuses on emotional, spiritual, and bereavement care within an interdisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in a related field and at least one year of hospice experience, with strong communication, empathy, and leadership abilities. A Master’s degree and CPE are preferred, and the position is part-time with mileage reimbursement and retirement benefits.

  • Master’s degree in related field is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • At least one year of hospice experience; experience in grief counseling is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual care and bereavement counseling to hospice patients and families.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings and maintain open communication with the team.
  • Preside over funerals or memorial services as requested by the family.
  • Incorporate Age‑Friendly Care principles (4Ms) into spiritual care approaches.

How you will contribute:

The Hospice Chaplain is a compassionate and qualified spiritual care professional who ensures the emotional, spiritual, and bereavement needs of hospice patients and their families are understood and honored. Working as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, the Chaplain helps develop and support individualized care plans that address the unique spiritual journeys of each patient and family.

How you will make an impact:

ManageOversight of Medical Services

  • Provide spiritual and bereavement counseling to hospice patients and their families, and assist them in identifying and addressing their spiritual and grief‑related needs.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings and maintain open communication with all team members.
  • Uphold strict patient confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Facilitate connections to community spiritual or faith‑based resources when appropriate.
  • Preside over funerals or memorial services at the request of the family.
  • Support Age‑Friendly Care by incorporating the 4Ms—What Matters, Medications, Mentation, and Mobility—into spiritual care approaches.

The Experience and Skills You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in religious studies, social work, psychology, counseling, pastoral education, or a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • At least one year of hospice experience.
  • Experience in grief and loss counseling.
  • Ability to honor and affirm the religious and spiritual autonomy of all individuals without imposing personal beliefs or doctrine.
  • Availability during agency operating hours and as needs arise.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, and time‑management skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, including email, clinical software, word processing, and spreadsheets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
  • Certification in Thanatology: Death, Dying, and Bereavement (CT) through ADEC.
  • Two years of experience providing grief and loss counseling.
