Job summary

Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus in Houston seeks a Chaplain to provide pastoral care, spiritual counseling and guidance to patients, families and staff in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Master of Divinity from an accredited seminary or equivalent
  • 4 Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) courses verified by hospital or accredited institution
  • Board Certified Chaplain from APC/NACC/NAJC/CASC preferred
  • Ordination by faith group preferred
  • Board certification within two years required

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements ministry objectives, policies and procedures aligned with hospital philosophy
  • Mentor and support Spiritual Care Volunteer programs and continuing education
  • Assess patient/family needs for spiritual guidance and counseling; initiate or recommend programs to meet needs
  • Administer sacraments and arrange for religious rites as needed
  • Maintain availability for consultation to hospital staff on hospital ministry matters
  • Create and promote healing and wholeness programs including Critical Incident Response Team activities
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Services to plan and teach Spiritual Care Volunteer classes

Job Description

We are searching for a Chaplain -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide pastoral care, spiritual counseling and guidance to patients, families and staff of the hospital.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of a fully accredited theological seminary with a Master of Divinity degree or canonically acceptable equivalent which could be verified with Board Certified Chaplain Eligibility
  • 4 Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) courses verified by the hospital or accredited educational institution
  • Board Certified Chaplain from the APC, NACC, NAJC, or CASC preferred
  • Individual ordained by her/his faith group preferred
  • Board certified within two years required
Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements ministry objectives, policies and procedures consistent with hospital philosophy
  • May actively support the Spiritual Care Volunteer programs through mentoring and continuing education programs
  • Evaluates patient/family needs for spiritual guidance and counseling. Initiates or recommends programs to meet those needs
  • Administers the sacraments and perform religious rites, e.g. baptism, or arranges for appropriate religious leader to do so
  • Maintains availability for consultation to hospital staff and other individuals on matters pertaining to hospital ministry
  • Creates and promotes healing & wholeness programs including Critical Incident Response Team activities and supports the specialized ministry of healthcare chaplaincy in every setting
  • Collaborates with Volunteer Services Asst. Director in planning and teaching Spiritual Care Volunteer classes
