JOB SUMMARY
The Chaplainare theologically and clinically trained to have a sensitivity to multicultural and multi-faith realities and deep respect for patients’ spiritual or religious preferences, while understanding the impact of cancer on individuals and their caregivers while providing spiritual counseling and comfort to the patient as well as their families who care for them through their illness.Weekend-Overnight coverage Friday-Sunday (8 pm - 8:30 am) with additional 4 flex hours.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree of Divinity, Philosophy or Counseling degree from a Council for Higher Education (CHEA) accredited institution or other Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) approved degree.
    Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an accredited Association of Clinical Pastoral Care Education (ACPE) center.

Preferred

  • Education
    Master's Degree Master of Divinity degree from a Council for Higher Education (CHEA) approved institution. or
  • Experience
    1 year of chaplaincy experience.


JOB DUTIES

  • Assessment of patient needs for spiritual support and outcome-based provision for services and interventions. Record assessments and outcome processes in Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Document other pertinent information for continuity of care and staff care.
  • Immediate response required for code blues, code stroke, end-of-life requests and time sensitive requests. Ability to triage requests, maintain pager responsibilities as assigned and collegially communicate ongoing needs to team for handoffs is crucial.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate related to spiritual and ethical concerns and provide reflective presence in decision making. Provide assistance with family conflicts, interpersonal relationships and advance planning including consult and facilitation of Advance Directives and communication of decision making issues to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide unbiased spiritual support resources appropriate to the developmental, emotional, religious and psychological needs of patients, their loved ones and staff.
  • Maintain timely and accurate preparation of progress reports, statistical data and projects which support departmental and hospital metrics goals.
  • Participate in the collegial clinical support of staff chaplains, students and volunteers in accordance with departmental standards of collegial practice.
  • Provide for sacramental or religiously specific needs of patients, their loved ones and staff. Facilitate contacting outside resources when necessary. Provide worship opportunities and/or supportive group activities for patients, family members and staff.
  • Communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for specified patient needs and advocacy.
  • Offer education to staff on utilization of Spiritual Care and Support with working knowledge of ethical issues, advance planning, decision making and other topics as need arises. Provide community education as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
