Job summary

Franciscan Health Crown Point in Crown Point, IN is seeking a Chaplain to provide pastoral ministry, spiritual support, and counseling to patients, families, and staff during illness, injury, and death.

You will participate in interdisciplinary rounds, collaborate with clergy groups, respond to crisis calls, and help deliver ethical and compassionate care aligned with Franciscan values.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree Theology or related field required.
• Master’s Degree Theology or related field preferred.
• 1 year Chaplain experience in healthcare preferred.
• Familiarity with ERDs preferred.
• Ecclesiastical Endorsement required.
• NACC Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide pastoral ministry through visitation, counsel and staff sacramental support to patients, families and staff.
• Assist patients with psychosocial, social, spiritual and emotional needs during illness or death.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and participate in care rounding, meetings and conferences.
• Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to patients and families on call and as needed.
• Help ensure spiritual services are available to new patients and families in assigned areas.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree Theology or related field

1 year Chaplain in a healthcare institution

Familiarity with Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services

Among the Franciscan team, our Chaplain supports patients, families, and staff in developing a sense of acceptance of all aspects of illness, and to incorporate them into their Christian or spiritual development. This position provides pastoral ministry through visitation, counsel, and staff sacramental support to patients, families, and staff. This role, additionally, assists patients in meeting their psychosocial, social, spiritual, and emotional needs during a period of illness, injury, and death.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

• Hours/Days: Monday-Friday 8:30a-430p. There will be one Saturday a month of expectation to work. One day a week on call Saturday- They also rotate holidays and weekends.

• Knowledge of spiritual care, at least 2 quarters of CPE some experience. Department is supportive of each other. Serve higher goals. We live the mission and values.

• Assist local religious groups and clergy persons to care for the sick/injured of their congregations, such as encouraging patient’s active connection to their faith group during and after illness.

• Collaborate, communicate, and participate in multifaceted delivery of holistic patient care through interdisciplinary care rounding, appropriate referrals, departmental meetings, family conferences, hospital committees, and education.

• Provide a clinical basis to the ministry by sound, applied spiritual and psychological principles, including active listening, reflection, discussion, and prayer.

• Respond promptly to calls for crisis intervention in assigned areas, providing spiritual and emotional support to patients/families.

• Ensure spiritual services made available to the majority of new patients and families in assigned areas, and follows-up on offerings, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Required Bachelor’s Degree Theology or related field.

• Preferred Master’s Degree Theology or related field.

• 1 year Chaplain in a healthcare institution Preferred

• Familiarity with Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services (ERD’s) Preferred

• Ecclesiastical Endorsement - .

• National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) Certification - The National Catholic Bioethics Center
