Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a full-time Chaplain to join our Brunswick Medical Center team. You will triage, respond to referrals, and collaborate with the chaplain team to provide spiritual care across inpatient and outpatient settings, while maintaining meticulous records in the EMR.

Ideal candidates hold a graduate divinity degree with endorsement, have at least two years of healthcare spiritual care experience, and are eligible for national certification.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in theology and endorsement by a faith group.
• Minimum two years of spiritual care in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Eligible for APC/CPSP certification; board certification within 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Spiritual Care: respond to referrals across inpatient/outpatient settings and provide prayers and rituals as requested.
• Provide Supportive Counseling: emotional and spiritual support in person or virtually.
• Document Care: record interactions in the EMR and designated tools.
• Support End-of-Life Needs: assist with advance directives and grief support.
• Consult on Psychosocial Issues: advise staff on complex concerns in teams/committees.
• Support Staff Wellbeing: respond to crises; lead self-care initiatives.
• Engage with Community: represent the organization at events and educate clergy.
• Participate in Hospital Initiatives: join interdisciplinary rounds and program initiatives.

Schedule details:

• Location: Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center
• Fulltime | Monday - Friday |8:00am - 4:30pm
• After Hours: on-call from home for emergencies

What You'll Do

• Deliver Spiritual Care: Respond to referrals across inpatient/outpatient settings; collaborate with chaplain team; use spiritual assessments to guide care; offer prayer, sacraments, and rituals as requested.
• Provide Supportive Counseling: Offer emotional and spiritual support in person or via phone/video platforms.
• Document Care: Record interactions and interventions in the electronic medical record and other designated tools.
• Support End-of-Life Needs: Assist with Advance Directives; provide grief support; help plan funerals/memorials; conduct services when appropriate.
• Consult on Psychosocial Issues: Serve on teams/committees; advise staff on complex emotional/spiritual concerns.
• Support Staff Wellbeing: Respond to crises (e.g., Code Lavender, CISM); lead self-care initiatives (retreats, services); offer burnout support and education.
• Engage with Community: Represent the organization at local events; speak to community groups; educate clergy on patient care challenges.
• Participate in Hospital Initiatives: Join interdisciplinary rounds, leadership events, and programs like Choices and Champions.

What We're Looking For

• Education: Graduate Degree, required. Master's of Divinity or graduate theological degree ordination or equivalent and endorsement by denominations or faith groups endorsing body. Completion of four units of CPE from a nationally accredited body.
• Experience: Minimum of two years Spiritual Care experience in a healthcare setting, preferred. Roles requiring communication across disciplines, preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Eligible for certification by APC, CPSP, or other equivalent national certifying body, required. Board certification completed within 3 years of hire date, required.
