Job summary

Truist Financial Corporation is seeking a project manager to plan, monitor, and manage internal projects of medium to large size in Charlotte, NC. The role requires advanced PM knowledge and the ability to lead teams, manage scope, cost, and schedule, and communicate with stakeholders.

The successful candidate will influence processes, drive improvements, and ensure delivery on time within budget. A Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years related experience are expected, with PMP or Lean Six Sigma

Applies advanced-level knowledge of the project management discipline to plan, monitor and manage internal projects of medium to large size and of moderate to high complexity from initiation through completion. Work requires knowledge of the primary discipline plus a broad understanding of active initiatives and the functioning of the assigned work team, LOB and Truist overall. Solves complex problems and takes a new perspective on existing solutions. Implements improvements to existing processes and methodologies and work flows to enable the team/department to work more efficiently and to stay within project timeline, budget, and scope. May include leading projects or project steps within a broader project or have accountability for ongoing activities of objectives. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Work is generally self-directed with minimal guidance and is determined by workflow and project responsibilities.

  • 1. Leads or coordinates project planning activities for medium/large, moderately/highly complex projects to devise a feasible plan that achieves the goals and objectives of the project and aligns with the business strategy.
  • 2. Defines problems and scope parameters, organizes project teams, assigns individual responsibilities, develops project schedules and milestones, identifies structures of authority and processes for decision making, and determines resource requirements.
  • 3. Understands and articulates the expectations for the project deliverable/s and ensures shared understanding within the team. Establishes and maintains relationships with all stakeholders and manages resources throughout the entire project.
  • 4. Measures project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques.
  • 5. Reports on the status of projects including key performance indicators (KPIs), cost, timing, and staffing.
  • 6. Troubleshoots and manages activities to ensure adherence to internal and external quality standards.
  • 7. Performs risk management to minimize project risks.
  • 8. Identifies/resolves obstacles to completing project on time and within budget.
  • 9. Recommends schedule changes, cost adjustments or resource additions when necessary. Uses appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and cost.
  • 10. Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation.
  • 11. Identifies and resolves moderately complex issues, reports and escalates to management as needed.
  • 12. Serves as an individual contributor with responsibility in a professional or technical discipline or specialty, but may serve as a resource for lower level professionals.
Qualifications Required
  • 1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience 3-5 years progressive related experience in either a consulting, project management or process improvement related role.
  • 2. Advanced understanding of project management framework and methodologies.
  • 3. Developed skills and experience in developing and implementing processes, standards and operational plans that will have an impact on the achievement of functional results.
  • 4. Demonstrated leadership in the implementation of complex projects and issue resolution.
  • 5. The ability to communicate with and influence others, conduct difficult negotiations and manage to stringent timelines for project deliverables.
  • 6. Advanced cost and risk management skills.
  • 7. Demonstrated understanding of business and technology organization, resources, priorities, needs and policies.
  • 8. Demonstrated ability to make decisions under pressure and bring clarity to ambiguous assignments.
  • 9. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, delegate and problem-solve.
  • 10. Working knowledge of business matters, finance, planning, and forecasting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1. Advanced degree in a relevant field of work (e.g., MBA) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • 2. Certification in Lean Six Sigma or similar process improvement, facilitation, and project management methodologies.
  • 3. Experience implementing small-medium/moderately complex initiatives across a matrix organization.
  • 4. Knowledge of management and planning systems theory and practical application to complex initiatives.
  • 5. Experience with financial measurements and metrics Financial Services experience.
