Job Description: Chambersburg Criminal Defense Paralegal

Kitay Law Offices, a rapidly growing Southeastern Pennsylvania law firm, is looking for an experienced (3+ years), well-organized Spanish bilingual criminal defense paralegal with a commitment to providing outstanding service.

Kitay Law Offices has been protecting and fighting for the rights of our clients for over 25 years. Due to demand and growth, we must add a criminal defense paralegal to our team to help manage an increasing caseload of criminal law clients. Our offices are in Wyomissing, Allentown, Kennett Square, Chambersburg, Hazelton and Philadelphia. We operate a highly collaborative office in which each professional helps the others to ensure all our clients receive the best possible service and outcome.

The criminal defense paralegal will work closely with our attorneys and across the organization to assist in a variety of paralegal, administrative support, and office management tasks. This is a full-time position primarily located at our Chambersburg, PA office.

Criminal Defense Paralegal Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist attorneys with all stages of case investigation and litigation, as well as with other administrative and office maintenance tasks
  • Requesting public records and tracking requests
  • Performing case opening and closing procedures
  • Participation in client/witness outreach and interviews, including inside jails/prisons
  • Organizing, maintaining, and managing case files
  • Drafting letters and simple legal filings
  • Managing process service
  • Reviewing memoranda of law and other legal documents
  • Reviewing and coordinating discovery, and drafting discovery requests
  • Maintaining case calendars
  • Tracking filing and response deadlines
  • Ensuring compliance with local court rules; proofreading
  • Assisting with preparation for all depositions, court proceedings
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be fluent in both Spanish and English
  • Paralegal program certificate or an associate degree in legal studies is preferred, but not required
  • Minimum three years of experience performing substantive legal work as a paralegal or legal assistant in a busy and demanding law office environment
  • Outstanding organizational skills, including document management and calendaring
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize competing tasks, and to meet deadlines
  • Must be proactive with the ability to identify next steps and pursue them and be comfortable with troubleshooting
  • Possess a high standard of professional and ethical conduct, integrity, and discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Work with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania local, state and/or federal courts
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Familiarity with the Needles and and/or SmartAdvocate case management software a plus
