Department Summary

The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNT Health) invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Genetics.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences, the Chair will provide academic, scientific, and administrative leadership for a department recognized for its strengths in microbiology, immunology, genetics, cancer biology, and translational research. The successful candidate will maintain an active, externally funded research program while fostering a collaborative culture that supports innovation, mentorship, educational excellence, and scientific discovery.

This is far more than a traditional department chair position. It is an opportunity to lead a department with exceptional faculty, diverse scientific expertise, robust graduate education programs, and a strong commitment to improving human health through research and education. Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD, MD, DO or equivalent terminal degree in microbiology, immunology, genetics, or a closely related biomedical discipline.
  • Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure in CBTS.
  • Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
