Virginia Health Sciences at VHS/EVMS, affiliated with Old Dominion University, seeks an accomplished academic surgeon to lead the Department of Surgery as its Chair. This role oversees clinical, educational, and research missions and reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine.

The Chair will drive strategic growth, build partnerships with Sentara Health, CHKD, and regional systems, and mentor a diverse faculty while advancing patient care, education, and scholarly productivity across

Formación

• MD or DO with surgical board certification.
• Eligible for unrestricted Virginia medical licensure.
• Eligible for Professor appointment at VHS/ODU.
• Proven leadership of a complex academic department.
• Track record in education, research, and clinical care.
• Commitment to faculty mentoring and diversity.

Responsabilidades

• Provide strategic, financial, clinical, and operational leadership for the Department of Surgery.
• Strengthen clinical enterprise and partner with health system leadership.
• Lead faculty recruitment, development, and retention.
• Advance medical education programs and maintain accreditation standards.
• Foster collaboration across affiliated sites and community partners.
• Drive scholarly activity, research growth, and translational initiatives.
• Champion diversity, inclusion, and a culture of belonging.
• Plan for succession and sustainable departmental growth.
