Job description

Position Overview

Chair, LVHN Department of Psychiatry

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), proudly part of Jefferson Health, is seeking a proven and effective leader to spearhead our Department of Psychiatry as Chair. The Chair will support the Lehigh Valley Fleming Neuroscience Institute as part of the LVHN legacy services, in addition to the Psychiatry & Human Behavior service line under Jefferson Health.

The Department of Psychiatry at LVHN is one of four pillars of the Lehigh Valley Fleming Neuroscience Institute, alongside the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and the Fleming Memory Center. These entities are dedicated to clinical, academic/research, and educational missions related to brain/nervous system and mental health in the region and beyond. The Lehigh Valley Fleming Neuroscience Institute partners with the Vicky and Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience of Thomas Jefferson University.

LVHN and our Department of Psychiatry are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for our community. Our team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, social workers, psychiatric nurses, and occupational therapists, all working collaboratively to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Our services include inpatient behavioral health at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH) Muhlenberg, LVH Schuylkill, and LVH Pocono, as well as short-term outpatient services at LVH Muhlenberg and LVH Cedar Crest, encompassing individual, couples, family, and group therapy. We also provide medication management for children, adolescents, and adults.

We offer a comprehensive continuum of behavioral health care, from emergency evaluation to intensive care, partial hospitalization, outpatient follow-up, homecare, and skilled nursing consultation. Our department is expanding and currently comprises over 30 psychiatrists and 120 mental health professionals, along with residency and fellowship programs.

  2. Appointing and supervising division chiefs, residency program directors, and other physician leaders.
  3. Developing, implementing, and managing quality improvement and care management programs.
  4. Overseeing educational and research activities, including appointing appropriate leadership.
  5. Collaborating with administration on clinical program development to meet community needs.
  6. Working with the Network Office of Research and Innovation and the Institutional Review Board to ensure research meets safety and academic standards.
  7. Managing the business and financial aspects of psychiatry programs.
  8. Serving on the LVPG Board of Governors and the Medical Executive Committee.
  9. Maintaining relationships with educational organizations and collaborating across clinical entities and Jefferson Health to provide comprehensive psychiatric care.
