Thomas Jefferson University seeks a visionary and engaging academic physician leader to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology in its Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC), located in the heart of Center City, Philadelphia. The successful candidate will also serve as the System Leader for OB/GYN at Jefferson Health, a clinical footprint that spans southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey, encompassing 10 Labor & Delivery units and 53 outpatient practice locations staffed by 160 employed OB/GYN physicians (academic and community).

The Department Chair will oversee 33 full-time faculty physicians and ensure exceptional care at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, which handles approximately 3,000 deliveries annually, and at 4 outpatient practice locations. The Chair should be a relationship-based leader capable of empowering faculty, promoting accountability, and developing future leaders to enhance the Department's residency and fellowship programs and expand its research portfolio, ensuring the recruitment of a diverse and exceptional faculty.

Reporting to the Dean of Sidney Kimmel Medical College, the Chair will direct programs to provide outstanding education, clinical training, and research opportunities for residents, fellows, and students. Responsibilities include faculty development, mentoring, and fostering impactful patient-centered research with interdisciplinary collaboration.

As System Leader, the candidate will strategically guide the evolution of the OB/GYN service line, shaping how Jefferson delivers care, educates, and promotes health equity to serve its patients, learners, and communities effectively. Working with regional OB/GYN leadership, the System Leader will drive initiatives to harmonize OB/GYN services across Jefferson Health, develop strategies, oversee implementation, and work toward making Jefferson a fully integrated academic health system. The role involves optimizing care delivery, enhancing clinical quality and safety, and standardizing practices across all sites.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A clinical leader experienced in blended practice models including academic, community, and contractually aligned physicians.
  • An emotionally intelligent leader skilled in open communication, listening, and incorporating diverse ideas.
  • A galvanizing leader capable of aligning diverse perspectives toward a shared vision for OB/GYN across Jefferson Health.
  • An effective strategist with the ability to translate organizational vision into operational goals.
  • A relationship-builder skilled in fostering engagement and collaboration across a large, matrixed health system.
  • Proven success in building inclusive clinical teams and driving system-wide performance improvements.

Qualifications include:

  • At least 5 years of leadership experience in clinical operations within a large academic health system.
  • Practicing academic physician with a trajectory of increasing administrative responsibilities, ideally as Chair, Vice Chair, or System Chief in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
  • A strong record of clinical excellence, program development, research expansion, and faculty mentorship.
  • Experience with operational and financial management, including budgeting and strategic planning.
  • Academic accomplishments meriting appointment as an associate or full professor at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
  • An MD/DO or equivalent, board certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology, and eligibility for an unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license.
