Job SummaryThis position is responsible for directing the operations of the School of Health & Natural Sciences Department of Nursing.
ResponsibilitiesAdministration (60%) -
Coordinates the department's accreditation functions to ensure Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. and Georgia Board of Nursing accreditation.
Oversees curriculum development and revisions; oversees the submission of substantive change reports to accrediting agencies.
Ensures that clinical contracts are maintained with affiliated clinical agencies.
Ensures that clinical site placements are scheduled and secured for nursing students enrolled in clinical courses.
Oversee annual assessment reporting initiatives.
Oversees the admission process.
Directs the orientation and advising of students.
Addresses and resolves student appeals and complaints.
Approves course schedules; revises and adapts schedules as needed.
Monitors enrollment during registration.
Maintains statistics of number of class sections and average class sizes.
Plans and leads department faculty meetings.
Ensure personnel and programs are in compliance with all USG, Department of Education, and other federal/state laws and policies.
Personnel Management (25%) -
Recruits and interviews applicants for faculty positions; supervises faculty; reviews and recommends full-time faculty for tenure or promotion as appropriate.
Evaluate personnel for 6 month probationary, annual, pre-tenure, 3rd year and post-tenure purposes.
Counsel faculty and staff concerning job performance and other relevant work duties as needed.
Ensure the Office of Human Resources receives timely employee information as required.
Approve faculty and staff work schedules, leave requests, and faculty development reimbursement requests in a timely manner.
Budget Management (5%) -
Oversees department budget.
Allocates funds for equipment purchases and other items as needed.
Monitors and allocates funds from MGA foundation account to support departmental needs.
Recruitment (5%) -
Attend and/or ensure appropriate departmental coverage at Open House Events for recruiting purposes.
Attend Orientation Events as needed.
Attend and participate in other recruitment events in order to attract high school students, transfer students, and other non-traditional adults into the programs offered by the department.
Ensure social media accounts and web presence is up-to-date, accurate and relevant to departmental programs.
Other Duties (5%) -
Attends meetings scheduled by the Dean, Provost, or other relevant administrators as a representative of the department.
Instructs classes as needed.
Serves on university committees as assigned.
Represents Department of Nursing and School of Health & Natural Sciences at various community events.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsEducational Requirements
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a doctoral degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Other Required Qualifications
Possession of or ability to readily obtain state certification as a Registered Nurse.
Required Experience
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand all objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesKnowledge of the field of nursing.
Knowledge of program accreditation requirements.
Knowledge of program assessment and strategic planning strategies.
Knowledge of budget development and management principles.
Knowledge of university program requirements.
Knowledge of classroom practices, teaching methodologies, assessment systems, and educational technology.

Skill to make timely decisions.
Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
