The Forest Stewardship Council–US (FSC US), a nonprofit organization founded in 1993, is seeking a Chain of Custody (COC) Manager to help grow and strengthen FSC’s impact in the U.S. market. This full-time, remote position is focused on supporting and expanding our network of Chain of Custody certificate holders—primarily among non-primary processors—through technical support, strong relationship management, and cross-team collaboration.

Are you passionate about sustainability, circularity, and responsible supply chains? Do you enjoy helping businesses succeed while advancing environmental and social impact? FSC-US is a fully remote team that works closely with over 400 FSC colleagues globally, alongside national and international companies, nonprofit organizations, governments, and thought leaders.

Essential duties and responsibilities

As a key member of the Science & Certification team, the COC Manager will strengthen relationships with U.S.-based, non-primary processor Chain of Custody certificate holders and provide technical support to help companies navigate and successfully implement FSC certification.

Build Relationships:

  • Develop strong relationships with key national-level, non-primary processor COC certificate holders to identify ways FSC US can enhance engagement and support their success.
  • Conduct outreach to all non-primary processor COC certificate holders to identify opportunities to better support these organizations and promote FSC loyalty.
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing team to organize and implement site visits, events, and other engagements with COC certificate holders.
  • Drive outbound communications and visibility efforts through newsletters, speaking engagements, and general outreach to promote FSC’s value and reinforce engagement with certificate holders.

Provide Chain of Custody Technical Support:

  • Support FSC US staff with COC technical queries, while training regional managers and other staff, as appropriate, to provide technical support for COC related queries.
  • Provide critical review and feedback to FSC International on COC-related processes and support stakeholder awareness, understanding and participation during these processes.
  • Identify priority tools and resources to support COC certificate holders and serve as project manager for their development.
  • Support marketing efforts by providing technical insights and certificate holder feedback to strengthen messaging, build trust in the FSC system, and encourage informed engagement across audiences.
  • Deliver technical education and resources through targeted webinars, guidance materials, and direct engagement with stakeholders.

This role requires up to 25% travel for site visits, events, and engagement with COC certificate holders and prospects to drive FSC growth.

You may be expected to contribute to our success by performing additional duties that support our vision, mission, and values.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3–5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Experience working in or with companies in the forest products value chain.
  • Practical understanding of wood procurement, material processing, or related industries.
  • Proven ability to build and sustain long-term professional relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort presenting to diverse audiences in virtual and in-person settings.
  • Ability to navigate remote collaboration tools, stay organized, and work effectively in a self-directed environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across teams and disciplines.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects and solve problems in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook. Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.
  • A professional, customer-service mindset with a focus on onboarding and retaining stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with FSC’s normative framework related to Chain of Custody (preferred).
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time within the US.

Benefits

  • We value a learning mindset and individuals who are invested in our mission.
  • We are a fully remote organization.
  • Our salaries are competitive with similar nonprofits and are adjusted to reflect local living costs.
  • We cover medical and dental insurance with partial coverage for your dependents.
  • Other benefits include generous PTO, an employer-matched 401k retirement account, and work-from-home tools & equipment to support your at-home office needs.

This position reports to the FSC-US Director of Science & Certification. FSC-US is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including those from underrepresented communities in the environmental and forest product sectors.
