Job summary

University of Michigan– Flint is seeking Student Peer Educators to lead gender, sexuality, and sexual violence prevention trainings. This role supports two tracks: Sexual Violence Prevention & Gender Equity and Gender, Sexuality, & Sexual Health.

You will develop programs, lead workshops, and help foster a knowledgeable campus community. Participants gain public speaking and facilitation skills while building resume and network with peers.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at UM-Flint.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and facilitate educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Attend 20 hours of training sessions.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly group meetings.
  • Present educational programs on gender and sexuality to campus groups.
  • Co-facilitate workshops and organize events.
  • Staff front desk and support office tasks as needed.
  • Work 10–15 hours per week during the school year, with summer as needed.

Job Summary

Peer Educators are student leaders who are trained to facilitate interactive and educational trainings and programs regarding gender, sexuality, and sexual violence prevention. The Peer Educator program has two tracks: 1.)Sexual Violence Prevention & Gender Equity 2.) Gender, Sexuality, & Sexual Health. This position is for student interested in pursuing the Sexual Violence Prevention & Gender Equity track.

Peer Educators are involved in every step of brainstorming, developing, and facilitating programs, certificates, and other workshops for their peers and other campus community members. They provide valuable education to the campus community such as sexual violence prevention, healthy relationships, understanding sexuality, gender equity, sexual health, and other topics as needed.

Peer Educators will develop and cultivate valuable skills including public speaking and facilitation skills, teamwork, creativity, leadership, and critical thinking while also having the opportunity to build upon one's resume and network with other students with similar passions.

Most of the work conducted for this job during the Fall 2026/Winter 2027 semester will be on campus/in person with some online events.

Responsibilities*
  • Attend 20 hours of training sessions.
  • Attend regular weekly staff meetings with track team and monthly meetings with the entire Peer Educator Group and all CGS ProStaff.
  • Present educational programs on gender and sexuality, including sexual violence prevention education programs to campus, student, staff, faculty, and community groups/organizations.
  • Participate in the development of new educational programs as needed.
  • Co-facilitate workshops, coordinate and organize events, and provide general program support. Peer Educators are scheduled between 10-15 hours per week during the school year and on an as needed basis during summer.
  • Promote events and workshops on campus.
  • Staff the front desk in CGS as assigned to welcome students and other visitors, assist ProStaff with office tasks, and generally create a welcoming office environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
  • Be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at UM-Flint
  • Have maintained good academic standing while employed as a Peer Educator
  • Make a commitment to serve as a peer educator until the end of the Winter 2027 semester
Desired Qualifications*
  • Prior knowledge or experience of sexual violence or gender based violence education
  • Prior knowledge and support of the LGBTQ+ community
  • Have been awarded Work Study
Modes of Work

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
