Certified Welding Inspector (Part - Time)

Job Description

Atlas is seeking a Part - Time Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support construction projects throughout South Florida, with a primary focus on the inspection of structural steel welds and welded connections. This role plays a critical part in helping ensure that infrastructure projects are completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable quality standards. The Certified Welding Inspector will perform visual inspections, review drawings and specifications, document findings, and verify conformance with project requirements, codes, and industry standards. Responsibilities may also include the inspection of high‑strength bolted connections and the identification of nonconforming work. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality in a field environment. This position requires regular travel to project sites throughout South Florida and the ability to work effectively with project teams, contractors, and clients.

Core Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspections of structural steel welds and welded connections to verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable codes and standards.
• Inspect high‑strength bolted connections in accordance with project requirements.
• Review structural drawings, welding symbols, project specifications, and related documentation to ensure quality and compliance.
• Document inspection findings and prepare accurate, detailed field reports.
• Communicate nonconforming work, quality concerns, and inspection results to project stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Follow all Atlas safety requirements and project‑specific safety procedures while performing field inspections.

Physical Requirements & Additional Requirements

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently in the field.
• Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds and perform physical activities including standing, walking, bending, and climbing throughout shifts of up to 12 hours in varying weather and terrain conditions.
• Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

• Experience performing visual inspections of structural steel welds and welded connections

Preferred Qualifications

• NDT Level II Certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
• Knowledge of structural steel drawings
• Experience inspecting high‑strength bolted connections
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, details, and welding symbols
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout South Florida as needed
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear inspection documentation
