Job summary

Helion Group is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) for its Structural Department in Texas. The role centers on visual inspection of finished structural steel products and MIG welding quality, with additional UT and MT testing for critical components.

Responsibilities include reviewing blueprints and weld symbols, ensuring WPS compliance and defect identification, and guiding production on welding quality standards.

Qualifications

• Must have AWS CWI certification and strong experience inspecting structural steel welding.
• Proficient in reading engineering blueprints, weld symbols, and shop drawings.
• Ability to identify weld defects and coordinate with welders and production staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspections of welds prior to shipment (60% of product).
• Inspect MIG/MAG welds with emphasis on CJP welds and verify WPS compliance.
• Conduct UT and MT inspections on seismic and load-bearing products when required.
• Review engineering drawings to ensure welds meet specifications and quality standards.
• Support production by advising on welding quality and inspection requirements.

CWI: Structural DepartmentPosition SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to oversee the quality of structural steel products throughout the manufacturing process. This position will focus heavily on visual inspection of finished product, structural MIG welding quality, and NDT inspection.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform visual welding inspections on approximately 60% of product prior to shipment.Inspect structural MIG welds, with a strong emphasis on Complete Joint Penetration (CJP) welds.Perform and document UT (Ultrasonic Testing) and Magnetic Particle (MT) inspections on seismic and load-bearing products.Review and interpret engineering blueprints, fabrication drawings, and shop drawings.Verify welds meet applicable specifications, drawings, WPS requirements, and quality standards.Identify weld defects and work directly with welders, supervisors, and production personnel to correct quality issues.Ensure proper welding procedures and inspection requirements are being followed.Support production by providing guidance on welding quality and inspection requirements.QualificationsAWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required.Strong experience inspecting structural steel welding.Experience with structural MIG/GMAW welding.Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, engineering drawings, and shop drawings.If you meet the following qualifications I encourage you to apply today!
