The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and safety of welded structures within the professional, scientific, and technical services industry. This position is responsible for conducting thorough inspections and evaluations of welding processes, materials, and finished welds to verify compliance with industry codes and standards. The CWI collaborates closely with engineers, fabricators, and project managers to identify potential defects and recommend corrective actions, thereby preventing structural failures and ensuring quality assurance. This role demands a deep understanding of welding techniques, metallurgy, and inspection methods to maintain high standards of workmanship and safety. Ultimately, the CWI contributes to the successful completion of projects by guaranteeing that all welding activities meet regulatory and client specifications across diverse applications in the United States.
Pay range for this position is USD $45 to $60 per hour. Pay range for this job level is a general guideline only for States that enforces pay transparency and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, certifications, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
The CWI utilizes a comprehensive set of technical skills daily to evaluate weld quality and ensure compliance with stringent industry standards. Proficiency in interpreting complex engineering drawings and welding procedure specifications enables accurate assessment of welds against project requirements. Strong analytical skills are essential for identifying defects and determining their impact on structural integrity, while effective communication skills facilitate clear reporting and collaboration with project teams. Familiarity with non-destructive testing methods enhances the ability to detect hidden flaws without damaging components. Additionally, staying updated with evolving codes and inspection technologies ensures the CWI maintains a high level of expertise, contributing to continuous improvement in welding quality assurance.
