Job summary

Universal Industrial Sales (UIS) is seeking a Shop Inspector to perform inspections on fabricated steel products in accordance with AWS codes and UIS procedures. The role requires verifying materials, fit-up, and documenting welding and coating inspections using UIS tracking software.

The ideal candidate holds an AWS CWI certification, understands mill test reports, and can read complex drawings. This on-site Utah position includes overtime, health and life insurance, and a path for advancement.

Qualifications

• AWS CWI Certification is required.
• ASNT Magnetic Particle Level II is preferred.
• ASNT Ultrasonic Shear Wave inspection certification is preferred.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings and welding symbols.
• Experience in using mill test reports and contract specifications.

Responsibilities

• Inspect fabricated steel products per AWS codes and UIS procedures.

Position Summary

Perform shop inspections on fabricated steel products to AWS codes, customer specifications and UIS quality control procedures. Verify proper materials are used using contract specifications, mill test reports and internal processes. Ability to verify fit-up and dimensions per drawings. Provide final welding and coating inspections (Galvanizing and Paint) and document results. Use UIS tracking software to monitor material in process and more to the next operation.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Ability to look up and print drawings for use.
• Able to read and interpret drawings, including welding symbols.
• Monitor Welders for adherence to weld procedures.
• Provide fit-up check prior to welding and final visual weld inspections.
• Administers weld test to welder applicants and current employees as needed.
• Performs work in reasonable amount of time and with minimal distractions to production.
• Understands productions Logs and status of material in process
• Writes report for daily weld inspections, galvanizing and painting.
• Communicates with others, particular welding staff to correct welding errors.
• Reports discrepancies in quantities or other problems.
• Uses non-conformance process and reporting to resolve issues.
• Assists 3rd party inspectors in locating and inspecting projects.
• Follow plants Safety Rules
• Perform Magnetic Particle Inspections (Yoke Method) - (if qualified).
• Performs Ultrasonic Shear Wave Inspections - (if qualified).

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required

• Current AWS CWI Certification
• ASNT Magnetic Particle Level II Certification (preferred, not required)
• ASNT Ultrasonic Shear Wave3 Inspection Certification (preferred, not required)
• Computer Skills (Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite)
• Excellent communications skills both verbal and written
• Ability to read and understand specifications from various agencies
• Comprehensive understanding of mill test reports
• Valid Drivers License

Environment

Job requires outdoor work and indoor in all weather conditions with extreme temperatures. Majority of work is done indoors in a heated area.

Starting Pay: $22.95 - $38.98/hr DOE +OT ($4.00 Night Differential)
