Job summary

Elk Grove Veterinary Specialty & Emergency is seeking a Relief Certified Veterinary Technician to join our ER/ICU team in Elk Grove Village, IL. This relief role provides high-stakes nursing care and supports critical patients with skilled anesthesia, triage, and rapid decision making.

You’ll work closely with veterinarians and a supportive team, with flexible shifts and opportunities to grow expertise in emergency medicine within Thrive Pet Healthcare’s network.

Qualifications

• Current LVT/CVT/RVT license (preferred- NOT required)
• Emergency/ICU experience highly preferred
• Strong anesthesia, triage, surgery assistance, and nursing care skills
• Knowledge of infectious disease, CPR, and critical patient monitoring
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to emergency patients.
• Triage incoming cases and assist with stabilization and monitoring.
• Perform advanced anesthesia induction and monitoring during surgery.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, CRIs, oxygen therapy, and post-operative care.
• Accurately complete and maintain medical records.
• Perform in-house diagnostics and prepare samples for testing.
• Communicate status and discharge instructions clearly to clients.
• Use safe, low-stress handling techniques in a busy ER/ICU.
• Collaborate with veterinarians to deliver seamless emergency care.

Relief Opportunity - ER/ICU

Elk Grove Veterinary Specialty & Emergency is looking to add a relief CVT to our team. Our hospital provides life-saving medical treatment and compassionate support to patients and their families.

This relief role is dedicated to Emergency and ICU, with flexible opportunities available.

Compensation: $25-$31/hr; inclusive of shift differentials and experience

Relief technicians are required to work a minimum of 1 shift per month, with no maximum limit on the number of shifts.

About You

As a Relief Veterinary Technician, you will play an essential role on our ER team. You bring a strong foundation of technical skills, a calm presence in high-pressure situations, and a commitment to compassionate, high-quality care.

• Administer medications, IV fluids, CRIs, oxygen therapy, and assist in post-operative care.
• Accurately complete and maintain medical records.
• Perform and interpret in-house diagnostics; prepare and submit samples for reference testing.
• Support clients with clear, compassionate communication regarding patient status and discharge instructions.
• Use safe, low-stress handling techniques while maintaining a clean, organized treatment area.
• Collaborate with veterinarians and peers to deliver seamless emergency and ICU care.
