Job summary

Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital in Portsmouth, NH seeks an emergency Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT eligible) for per diem shifts. You’ll support our ER/ICU team delivering advanced nursing care to emergency, critical care, hospitalized, and specialty patients.

In this role you’ll pick up open shifts, most being 12 hours, with a base pay ranging from $20–$35 per hour plus a $5 overnight differential, and you’ll join a collaborative hospital environment that values learning and quick

Qualifications

  • CVT / LVT / RVT or VTNE Eligible required
  • 1+ years of experience in a small animal hospital setting preferred
  • Emergency or critical care experience is a plus
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care to emergency, critical care, hospitalized, and specialty patients.
  • Triage incoming emergency patients and assess status quickly.
  • Place IV catheters, administer meds, and calculate dosages.
  • Assist with stabilization and life-saving procedures including CPR.
  • Collect diagnostic samples and assist with imaging and monitoring.
  • Induce and monitor anesthesia for emergency and specialty procedures.
  • Maintain detailed medical records.
  • Monitor vitals and communicate changes to the attending veterinarian.
  • Educate clients at discharge with medications and home care instructions.
  • Support a collaborative hospital environment and daily workflow.

Veterinary Technician, Emergency - CVT/LVT/RVT | $20-$35/hr

Location: Portsmouth, NH

Schedule: Per Diem | As-needed shifts

Compensation: $20-$35/hour + $5/hour Overnight Shift Differential

Join Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital as a Per Diem Emergency Veterinary Technician in Portsmouth, NH. Support our ER/ICU team while providing advanced nursing care for emergency, critical care, hospitalized, and specialty patients.

If you’re a skilled CVT, LVT, RVT, or VTNE-eligible Veterinary Technician looking to continue growing your emergency and critical care experience while maintaining schedule flexibility, we’d love to meet you.

Schedule
  • This is an as-needed, per diem role. You’ll have the flexibility to pick up open shifts as they become available; most will be 12 hours in length.
Compensation
  • Earn between $20 and $35 per hour, based on skills and credentials.
  • Shift Differential: Base + $5 for any hours worked between 12a- 7a
Responsibilities
  • Deliver exceptional nursing care to emergency, critical care, hospitalized, and specialty patients including surgical, internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, and urgent care cases
  • Triage incoming emergency patients and assess patient status quickly and efficiently
  • Place IV catheters, administer medications and fluids, and perform accurate dosage calculations
  • Assist with patient stabilization and support life-saving procedures, including CPR
  • Collect diagnostic samples and assist with imaging and patient monitoring
  • Induce and monitor anesthesia and sedation for emergency and specialty procedures
  • Maintain detailed and accurate medical records
  • Monitor patient vitals, identify changes in condition, and communicate findings promptly to the attending veterinarian
  • Educate clients at discharge regarding medications, home-care instructions, and follow-up recommendations with empathy and clarity
  • Support a collaborative, team-focused hospital environment while contributing to daily workflow and patient care priorities
Qualifications
  • CVT / LVT / RVT or VTNE Eligible required
  • 1+ years of experience in a small animal hospital setting preferred
  • Emergency or critical care experience is a plus
  • Strong technical skills including patient restraint, venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and nursing care
  • Ability to prioritize and thrive in a fast-paced emergency veterinary environment
  • Strong communication skills with both clients and team members
  • Positive, dependable, and collaborative approach to patient care and teamwork
  • Eagerness to continue learning and growing professionally
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
