Job summary

Madison Veterinary Specialists (MVS) seeks full time Certified Veterinary Technicians and new graduates to join our Oncology department. Primary duties include nursing care, lab work, and treatments under our board-certified Oncologist. You will liaise with clients and staff, assist in surgeries, handle anesthesia, and prepare estimates and invoices.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a veterinary technician program with current registration as a Certified or Licensed Veterinary Technician.
• Anesthesia administration experience required; ventilator experience a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with staff and clients with discretion.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices and estimates.
• Willingness to participate in continuing education in Oncology and related technician skills.
• Physical strength and stamina to work on feet and lift up to 30 pounds.
• Capable of safely working in environments with hazardous materials and infectious/zoonotic diseases.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary medical nursing care and perform laboratory tests and treatments under the direction of the Oncologist.
• Act as liaison between client, doctor and clinical staff; assist in surgical procedures; perform anesthesia and catheter placement.
• Calculate drug dosages and prepare treatment estimates and invoices.
• Process prescriptions and support in patient care within the Oncology service.

Madison Veterinary Specialists (MVS) is seeking full time experienced Certified Veterinary Technicians and recent graduates from an accredited Veterinary Technician program to join our growing team. We have open positions in our Oncology department.

As the Oncology Certified/Licensed Technician primary responsibilities include providing veterinary medical nursing care, perform laboratory test and administering treatments under the direction of our board-certified veterinary Oncologist. Additional duties include acting as the primary liaison between the client, doctor and clinical staff, assist in surgical procedures, perform anesthesia, catheter placement, calculate drug dosages (including CRIs), process prescriptions, prepare treatment estimates and invoices.

Our Oncology service utilizes progressive safety equipment including closed system transfer devices and a certified Type B2 biosafety cabinet to ensure our patient and team member safety.

Work Schedule

• Full time, 4 days per week.
• Monday through Thursday, ~8:00 – 5:30 pm

Qualifications

• A graduate of a veterinary technician program with current registration as a Certified or Licensed Veterinary Technician possessing 1 or more year’s clinical experience in veterinary field.
• Anesthesia administration experience required, ventilator experience a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with staff and clients effectively and with discretion.
• Consistent and reliable ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices and estimates, and other position-related calculations.
• Willingness to participate in continuing education in the area of Oncology and other related technician skills to ensure continued improvement in standard of care.
• Physical: Must have the strength and stamina to work on feet throughout shift and lift up to 30 pounds.
• Ergonomic: An employee in this position must be capable of safely working in environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials, infectious and zoonotic diseases.
• Other: An employee in this position must have a strong sense of helping clients and caring for animals and to assist with emergency or critical-care patients as needed. Maintain strict confidence regarding client and patient information. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
