Heidi’s Village seeks a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) to join our Phoenix team. You will assist in examinations, dental procedures, immunizations, surgeries, and patient intake/discharge while maintaining inventory and lab equipment.

Strong knowledge of drugs, diseases, prevention, and safety is essential. Candidates with AZ CVT certification preferred and 6–12 months of surgical experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Arizona CVT certification preferred; experience as a vet tech considered.
  • 6 months working/volunteering with domestic animals preferred; list hours and duties.
  • 6–12 months of surgery experience preferred for priority consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Educate clients on procedures, outcomes, medications and prevention.
  • Operate and troubleshoot in-house lab equipment, IDEXX machines a plus.
  • Perform radiographic techniques and positioning with safety protocols.
  • Assist in surgeries, maintain sterile environment and monitor anesthesia.
  • Prepare and manage dental prophylaxis and radiographs, practice drug calculations.
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
  • Understand infection control and isolation protocols in a shelter setting.

Job description

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). This position reports to the Practice Manager in Heidi’s Village Veterinary Center in Phoenix and is available immediately.

SUMMARY: The CVT assists in multiple procedures providing care for animals including physical examinations, dental procedures, immunizations, surgeries, intake/discharge of patients and inventory maintenance. This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases; their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with and educate clients on their patient’s procedures, outcomes, medications and preventative.
  • Must be familiar with operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting in house lab equipment. Bonus if is familiar with IDEXX in house lab machines.
  • Skilled in proper radiographic technique and positioning, safety protocols and regulations regarding radiation exposure.
  • Strong background and knowledge of surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, anesthetic induction, intubation, monitoring and recovery. Needs to know how to operate, maintain and troubleshoot anesthetic equipment.
  • Proficient in dental prophylaxis and dental radiographs
  • Understands pharmaceutical drug classifications, uses, contraindication, drug calculations and conversions as well as routes of administration.
  • Knowledgeable in hospital safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
  • Must be familiar with isolation protocols and infectious disease transmission in a shelter setting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Certified veterinary technician in the state of Arizona preferred - years of experience as a vet tech will be considered.
  • 6 months working/volunteering with domestic animals in an animal shelter, veterinary hospital, or another animal facility preferred. NOTE: Any applicable volunteer or work experience should be listed and include hours worked and job duties.
  • Priority consideration will be given to candidates with 6-12 months of surgery experience.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Fast paced with frequent and unplanned operational challenges and interruptions
  • Collaborative environment where employees are expected to assist others regardless of job title or function
  • Frequent exposure to animal noises, odors, bodily fluids/excrement, and dander
  • Work is performed in a potentially high decibel area, with varied temperature control (including in/outdoors), and with safety equipment often required
  • Regularly required to stand/walk on all types of surfaces – slippery, uneven, and rough
  • Must be able to actively stand/walk/bend while handling a wide variety of size/strength/temperament of animals
  • Frequent lifting/handling/controlling animals/materials weighing 50+ pounds safely
