Washington County Animal Services, located at the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter in Hillsboro, Oregon, has an exceptional opportunity for a Certified Veterinary Technician to perform specialized technical work related to the medical care and treatment of animals in our veterinary clinic. You will assist our staff Veterinarian with medical procedures and the day-to-day functions of the shelter.
If you are passionate about providing medical care and treatment to animals and are considering a career in the public sector within a municipal animal shelter, your talents will add value to our services. You will collaborate with community partners across the Portland metro area, engaging in outreach and education to prevent animal intake and providing excellent care to shelter animals.

Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter cares for lost animals, finds homes for abandoned pets, licenses dogs, enforces animal cruelty laws, and protects citizens from dangerous animals. Last year, we responded to over 7,000 citizen calls and answered more than 50,000 phone inquiries, achieving high return-to-owner rates. We work with partners to place animals in loving homes.
Washington County, Oregon's second largest, serves over 145,000 dogs and 115,000 cats across 727 square miles.
You will assist the Shelter Veterinarian with animal care, anesthesia, triage, and population medicine. Responsibilities include maintaining medical equipment, managing supplies, handling animal emergencies, and participating in daily shelter operations, including safety and volunteer training. You may also be involved in emergency response activities.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, independent professional with certification as a veterinary technician, preferably with shelter experience. You should be capable of handling multiple tasks, including direct animal care, inventory management, and emergency response.
