About Us

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) is dedicated to fostering a dynamic and supportive educational environment. We are seeking a committed Teacher to enhance student learning and development through effective instruction and collaboration.

Job Summary

The Teacher provides support to the instructional process by supervising students in the classroom and other assigned areas. This role involves developing lesson plans, delivering group and individual instruction, collaborating with other professionals, and addressing inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Instructional Adaptation: Adapt classroom work to address individualized learning plans, 504 plans, and other needs within established lesson plans.
  2. Assessment Administration: Administer developmental and subject-specific assessments to evaluate student competency and develop individual learning plans.
  3. Progress Monitoring: Assess student progress towards learning goals and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  4. Collaboration: Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
  5. Activity Coordination: Coordinate activities including lesson plans and both indoor and outdoor activities to ensure the availability of necessary resources.
  6. Demonstration: Demonstrate effective methods for performing classroom and subject-specific assignments.
  7. Supervision: Direct student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers as needed.
  8. Instruction Delivery: Provide instruction in both in-person and virtual environments to enhance students' academic and interpersonal skills.
  9. Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate, up-to-date information on student learning using district grading and data software.
  10. Modeling Behavior: Model appropriate social and interpersonal behavior for students.
  11. Monitoring: Monitor students in various educational settings (e.g., classroom, computer labs, assemblies) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  12. Activity Organization: Organize age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
  • Experience: Relevant job-related experience is required.
  • Skills: Ability to apply assessment instruments, operate classroom equipment, troubleshoot technology, and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of relevant codes, policies, regulations, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies.
  • Abilities: Ability to schedule activities, manage diverse groups, adapt to changing priorities, and solve problems independently.

Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, with some climbing and balancing. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 50% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment with minimal temperature variations.

Other Functions

  • Meetings: Participate in meetings (e.g., professional development) to gather and convey information necessary for job functions.
  • Documentation: Prepare written materials such as grades and attendance records to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Incident Reporting: Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse) to maintain student safety and adhere to school policies.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Inquiry Response: Respond to inquiries from various sources (e.g., other teachers, parents, administrators) to resolve issues and provide information.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
