Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist for the Main OR on a part-time weekend schedule (6:45am-7:00pm Saturdays and 6:45am-3:00pm Sundays). No on-call required. CST and BLS certifications are required; 1+ year main OR experience preferred, ortho experience preferred.

Located at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights. Position provides proficient perioperative patient care under RN direction, serving as scrub assistant and role model for staff.

Qualifications

• New Grad <1 year and Surg Tech I–III levels indicate progressive perioperative experience.
• Graduates of a Surgical Technologist Program must be certified and eligible to work.
• Licensure must include BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates perioperative patient care as scrub assistant for operative procedures.
• Ensures readiness and flow of cases to support unit functioning.
• Verifies supplies and equipment prior to procedures per surgeon’s card.
• Applies aseptic technique to ensure optimal patient care.
• Maintains safety for patients, staff, and visitors per MH policy.
• Participates in department goals, education, and mentoring of staff.
• Models Memorial Hermann service standards with compassionate care.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ortho experience preferred

This position is located at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights.
Position responsible for providing proficient perioperative patient care through the use of equipment and instrumentation. Position functions as a scrub assistant to the physician performing operative and/or invasive procedures. Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and as outlined in the Surgical Technologist Skills Inventory; uses knowledge/expertise to act as a role model and resource for other staff.
Position must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served as well as knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles.

Education

Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program

Licenses/Certifications

Certified in Basic Life Support and Certification as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Principal Accountabilities

• Demonstrates knowledge and practice of perioperative patient care concepts; demonstrates the ability to perform independently as first scrub in assigned specialty areas.
• Provides support for readiness and flow of cases to facilitate overall functioning of the unit, performing assigned duties as needed.
• Verifies functioning and adequate availability of supplies/instruments/equipment prior to the surgical procedure as indicated by the surgeon’s preference card and other available resources.
• Demonstrates the application of the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner that provides for optimal patient care in the OR.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
