Job Description

Responsible for assisting nursing personnel in providing quality care to patients in the operating room. Performs duties as a scrub person under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. Assists in obtaining supplies, equipment, and opening operating rooms as needed. Breaks down setups and prepares instruments for sterilization. Helps transfer patients to the recovery room and cleans and restocks the operating room.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Checks and gathers all instruments for each case in the assigned room using the surgeon's preference card.
2. Checks sterility tapes, dates, and wrapper integrity.
3. Opens sterile supplies for assigned cases, maintains a sterile field, and corrects any breaches immediately.
4. Performs surgical scrub techniques and gowning and gloving procedures for self and the surgical team.
5. Arranges instruments, basins, sutures, and supplies in an organized manner for accurate counting after procedures.
6. Assists circulating nurses with counts of sponges, cottonoids, needles, vessel loops, umbilical tape, Penrose drains, and other devices and instruments.
7. Uses all devices and instruments properly and performs standard draping techniques.
8. Passes instruments to the surgical team safely and efficiently.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
• Licensed in the state of New Jersey.

Preferred:

• Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or a related field.
• BLS certification preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience as a Scrub Tech in a hospital setting.
