Job Description

Responsible for assisting nursing personnel in delivering quality care to patients in the operating room. Performs duties of a scrub person under the supervision of a registered nurse. Assists in obtaining supplies, opening operating rooms, and preparing instruments for sterilization. Transfers patients to the recovery room and maintains the cleanliness and restocking of the operating room.

Principal Accountabilities

• Gather and check all instruments for each case using the surgeon's preference card.
• Verify sterility tapes, dates, and wrapper integrity.
• Maintain a sterile field, open sterile supplies, and act promptly to correct breaches in technique.
• Perform surgical scrub techniques and gown and glove procedures for self and team.
• Arrange instruments and supplies for accurate counting post-surgery.
• Assist circulating nurses with counts of sponges, needles, and other devices.
• Use instruments and devices appropriately and perform standard draping techniques.
• Pass instruments safely and efficiently to the surgical team.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Certification from an accredited Surgical Tech program
• Certification through NCCT or NBSTSA
• 1-2 years of hospital scrub tech experience preferred
• BLS certification required
