Job summary

Prisma Health in Columbia, SC seeks a Surgical Technologist to assist in patient care before, during and after surgery as a novice to advanced beginner, completing identified job competencies. You will prepare for procedures, maintain aseptic technique, assist with instrument counts, handle specimens, and support the RN with drugs and solutions.

Mandatory ST education and certification maintenance required.

Qualifications

• Education: Successful completion of a Surgical Technology program or Surgical Technologist training in the U.S. Armed Forces.
• Experience: No previous experience required.
• In lieu of education: 15 hours annually of ST continuing education and either prior state employment as a ST before Jan. 1, 2008 or completion of a ST military training program.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for surgical procedures by collecting supplies and instruments.
• Maintain aseptic technique and ensure patient safety.
• Assist in instrument counts and handling of specimens; support RN with drugs and solutions.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and complete required annual education.
• Complete annual age-specific accountabilities and perform other duties as assigned.
